• St Monans Sea Queen Day 2009

This year St Monans Sea Queen Day takes place on Saturday the 20th of June - starting at 11.30am. The harbour itself, and the winding streets around it, with a backdrop of picturesque little houses, many with traditional pantile-roofs, make the perfect setting for the stage and stalls on land; while the harbour comes into it’s own when the Royal Party arrive by sea. This is a ‘Not-to-Be-Missed Event for the whole family. Our traditional gala day is a family day packed with pageantry, music, games, competitions, stalls, rides, food and lots more.

The Sea Queen and Royal Party will arrive onboard the restored antique herring drifter ‘Reaper’…. accompanied by the Anstruther Life Boat and a flotilla of small boats. There will be a parade of the 2009 Royal Party, plus a special event involving ‘previous’ or “Home Coming Sea Queens” from the 1950s to the present day. A superb live Jazz Band will play all afternoon and there will also be Pipers too. Among the attractions there will be a model boat display, the Fife Museum bus, plus events and attractions suitable for locals and visitors, young and old. The excitement starts with the Official Opening at 11.30am.

In the evening there will be a Family ‘Sea Queen’ Ceilidh in St Monans Town Hall, and on Sunday morning at 10am there will be the Kirkin’ O the Sea Queen beginning with a special ceremony at the little bridge leading to St Monans Auld Kirk.

St Monans Sea Queen Day NEEDS  Y O U !

If you would like to become involved in any aspect of St Monans Sea Queen Day, please contact a committee member.

There is a special need for young, fit people who can help on the day before SQ Day, on the day itself and possibly on the day after too. Our Sea Queen committee own (and rent out) over 26 striped-canopied stalls. The stalls help to add colour and interest to our gala day; however the collection, erection and dismantling of these stalls is a major operation which needs more strong-armed help. If you can help - please contact any member of the Sea Queen committee.

The stalls are also available for hire for other Gala Days and outdoor events. Contact any Sea Queen Committee members for details.
