Have you ever considered becoming a Community Councillor?
Community Councils are established throughout Scotland to express the views of their communities to both the local and public authorities. They can also take practical action in the interests of their communities and are encouraged to promote a sense of community spirit within their village or town.
St Monans & Abercrombie Community Council is committed to working towards the enhancement of the lives of the residents of the villages and to ensuring that everyone who lives here is kept informed of new developments in our part of the East Neuk.
This year every Community Council in Fife is up for re-election, including here in St Monans & Abercrombie. Community Council elections will take place on Thursday 4th October 2018. Have you ever thought about becoming a Community Councillor?
What does a Community Councillor do?
Your main role is to act as a channel for the opinions of the local community. You can also get involved in local projects mostly related to local infrastructure such as footpaths, parks or playgrounds and local events.
Community councils are also given the right to be notified of, and respond to, any planning application.
On a more practical level, all Common Good Fund applications for grants are referred to the Community Council for approval.
All of the team are volunteers who have been voted onto the Community Council and are not remunerated for their work.
How much time does it take up?
Here in St Monans & Abercrombie, we currently meet eleven times per year. Community Council meetings take approximately two hours and take place on the third Monday of the month (July is our holiday month).
