Avril\u2019s artwork is inspired by her surroundings in the beautiful East Neuk of Fife. She produces linoprints, and paintings, paper cuts and pastel drawings in her studio in St Monans.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Anne\u2019s work is sourced from memories and experiences of time spent in the Hebrides as well as her home in the East Neuk. The intuitive paintings are primarily in oils as she enjoys the fluidity of this medium.

After graduating in 2001 from DJCAD she co-founded Ovenstone Studios  which has provided working spaces for artists and makers for over 20 years.

She exhibits regularly in the Pittenweem Arts Festival, East Neuk Open Studios. This is her second year of exhibiting with the St Monans Arts Festival.  Last year she took up a position on the board of directors of the Pittenweem Arts Festival.  Her work is in private collections throughout the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Barbara Gardner Rowell’s creative practice explores narratives of identity, place and belonging.

She will be showing a selection of weavings and woodblock prints in the Auld Kirk on Sunday 7th September from 10 am to 5pm.

Nichola Martin is an award winning Scottish artist living on the east coast of Scotland.  Working from her studio Nichola specializes in still-life & figurative works both in oils and charcoal drawings creating cool, classy and contemporary pieces to be exhibited in various galleries around the UK.

As well as working on her own drawings and paintings Nichola holds various workshops and classes throughout the year. From teaching the fundamental importance of drawing with the use of charcoal Nichola also teaches oil painting from beginner to advanced.

Born in Carnoustie, Angus in 1974, once completing school, Nichola moved to Fife where she continues to work from her studio today. As a mature student, before completing an HND in Art & Design at Elmwood College, Cupar, Nichola graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design with a BA Hons Fine Art in Drawing and Painting in 2007. Whilst at art school Nichola was awarded the John Kinross Scholarship which enabled her to study in the city of Florence, Italy and also won the Scottish Further Education Unit Prize both awarded by the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh.  Nichola has since been awarded Artist in Residence for StAnza 2019, (Scotlands International Poetry Festival) for her depiction of books.<\/em>

A keen lover of the Italian Renaissance period Nichola\u2019s work focuses on still-life and figurative works both in oils and charcoal. ‘Every artist needs to study still-life, they say, to learn the foundation basics and advanced techniques for successful drawing and painting.’  As a skilled draughtsman Nichola’s work is highly sought after for paintings requiring a high level of technical detail, including a commission for the late British author John Le Carre of all his published books.<\/em>

Since graduating Nichola has exhibited widely throughout the UK and has numerous works in private collections internationally. As well as working on her own drawings and paintings Nichola holds various workshops and classes throughout the year. From teaching the fundamental importance of drawing with the use of charcoal Nichola and oil painting.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Hi, I\u2019m Arthur Nuttall and have lived in the East Neuk all my life the highlight of my hobby was my painting of the fishing drifter Reaper coming home being presented to Princess Anne.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

For as long as I can remember I have never been far away from a paint brush. Experimenting with colour excites me as shown in my life drawing and floral art work. I like to use a variety of mediums such as pastel, acrylic, brusho and watercolour. Alongside traditional brushes, I like to experiment with pallet knives, sticks, scrapers or anything that can be used for mark making.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The East Neuk offers a plethora of beautiful images for all artists. It’s rocky seashore flanked by pantiled cottages and fertile fields of the ‘fringe o’ gowd’ provide an endless source of inspiration.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

I grew up in St Monans, and being by the sea continues to inspire me\u2014the space, the shifting light, the sense of fresh air. I try to capture that feeling.

This year I\u2019ve included paintings inspired by a trip to the West Highlands and Islands. I mainly paint in acrylics and I like experiencing with different techniques.

I\u2019m still early in my journey, and it\u2019s a privilege to be part of this event. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Pauline is a contemporary still life and landscape painter. Her work explores the liminal spaces between realism and the abstract; the notion of something caught within the peripheral vision. She is strongly influenced by her time at the GSA, drawing on the experience to produce pieces imbued with colour and form. Many hours are spent searching for something that will spark the creative impulse. The setting of still life elements ensure that light direction and composition are carefully considered. The drafting and layering of colour can take weeks and sometimes months. It is a slow and methodical process. The final pieces are bright and vibrant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Henry Philip lives in the East Neuk of Fife with his wife, Bon, and their daughters, Darcy and Penny. His work is inspired by the coastal charm of his surroundings\u2014vibrant seaside houses and quirky local characters often feature in his art. While he specialises in digital illustration, Henry also enjoys working with traditional mediums like pencil and ink.

Pat Swan is a Textile Artist and Artist Book Maker. She has exhibited previously with Indigo Tracks, a mixed media group, but more recently has focussed on her love of making Artist Books. She sees these as small pieces of Art which come alive when opened and enjoyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She will be displaying framed and mounted textile works and cards, as well as a new selection of artist books inspired by the weather and changing light on her recent visits to the East Neuk.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fiona has spent most of her adult life working in the textile and fashion industry as a designer and buyer, both in the UK and abroad. She recently reconnected with her love of painting and creativity since moving to St Monans in 2020. Nature has always been a source of inspiration for her work. She enjoys exploring the sea and landscapes of the East Coast of Fife.

Her work is developing as she explores different techniques and connects with other artists & creatives in the locality. She has recently established Netloft Studio which is a platform to connect with other artists and creatives supporting collaboration and connection.

This year, I\u2019ve drawn inspiration from the stories of witches within Fife. Haunted by the coastline\u2019s dark past and the forgotten voices of those accused, my work explores themes of persecution, power, and myth through a series of shadowed, witch-inflected pieces.

Working in watercolour, I use its fluid, unpredictable nature to summon the atmosphere of a time when fear and folklore turned neighbour against neighbour. These paintings are not only a homage to the women who were silenced, but also a reminder of how stories, both true and twisted, continue to shape the landscape around us.
