New street names required for new housing development
The Community Council has been invited to submit suggestions for six street names on the site of the new development, next to the old manse. The developer, Lochay Homes, has been consulted and has made no suggestions. The Community Council would therefore like to hear your ideas! You need to provide a reason for each name suggested, it must comply with Fife Council guidance and you can submit as many suggestions as you like.
A brief summary of what you can and cannot consider is provided below. The full guidance on appropriate names can be found at:
https://www.fife.gov.uk/kb/docs/articles/planning-and-building2/planning/street-naming-and-numbering
Send your suggestions by email to community@stmonans.org.uk before Friday 16 April. This will allow the Community Council to consider the suggestions at its April meeting and submit the best suggestions.
Please note that the final decision rests with local Fife Councillors so there is no guarantee that our suggestions will be approved.
New street names should meet one of the following criteria:
•Commemorate local history and culture
•Honour noteworthy persons local to the area or to Fife
•Celebrate cultural diversity in Fife
•Commemorate national and international events
•Strengthen neighbourhood identity
•Recognise native wildlife and natural features of the area
The following criteria will not generally be accepted due to the potential confusion:
•Street names duplicating/very similar to existing streets in Fife
•The same street name repeated with different endings
•The use of punctuation or abbreviations (except for St for Saint)
•Names of living persons or persons who have been deceased for fewer than five years
